Fries and Coleslaw?

A stroll through Oakland would be not complete without a visit to Primanti Bros., home of Pittsburgh’s “Almost Famous” Sandwiches. Located on Forbes Avenue near University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon, you definitely feel a college vibe when you walk in.

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and as advertised, there was plenty of coleslaw and fries, a Primanti’s trademark. This made the sandwich hard to grab and eat. In addition, the bread was kind of dry but the coleslaw as well as the Tabasco sauce made up for it.

The girlfriend ordered a different sandwich (salami and cheese) with the same overflow of fries and coleslaw…she didn’t stand a chance.  As with most dinners with the girlfriend, I was able to eat the other half of her sandwich.

If you are looking for a quick, no frills place to eat, this is the place to go. Just make sure you have plenty of napkins handy. Lucky for me, I have a girlfriend who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty.
