Surf’s Up!

When a food truck is named Cowabunga, you know you’re in for a real treat! Half of FP (Allen) was in attendance at the Old Greenwich Dishcrawl a few weeks ago and was treated to great burgers and fried oreos from Cowabunga. We caught up with Ben Boger, owner of not one, but TWO food trucks (Cowabunga and Ben’s Ice Cream) to learn more about him.

FP: We love the concept of your Cowabunga Food Truck! How did the idea come about?

BB: The inspiration for Cowabunga came from my brief time staying in Florida two winters ago. The food truck scene there is really popular. At first, the truck was going to be a soft serve truck and evolved into a food truck.

FP: When you’re not operating the food truck, what are some of your favorite meals to cook for yourself and/or for guests?

BB: I like to try making new things with my girlfriend for fun. We recently made a good Pad Thai and pasta with grilled chicken and veggies. I eat out more. I like to be waited on

FP: We love a good Pad Thai!

Speaking of eating out…name some of your favorite places in CT or other cities you’ve visited.

BB: I love Valencia on Main Street. Norwalk Pizza and Pasta makes the best pizza club. Its one of my all time favorites. I love trying food wherever I go. Joes Stone Crab in Miami is awesome!

FP: Like you, we LOVE trying new places to eat!

What are some of your guilty pleasures? We like to call them foodie pleasures, hence the name 🙂

BB: My mom and girlfriend tell me I need to eat more veggies. I love all food that’s bad for you. Pizza, chicken cutlets, bacon, bread, and pasta are a major part of my diet.

FP: We’re definitely guilty for including pizza, chicken cutlets and pasta in our diets for sure!

In three words, how would your friends and family describe you?

BB: They would probably say that I’m hardworking, passionate and goal oriented.

FP: If you weren’t operating a food truck, what would you be doing? Any non-cooking hobbies?

BB: I currently operate my ice cream truck along with the food truck so I suppose I would be doing that still.

Otherwise, I would probably be working at ESPN or some media related company. I graduated from Southern Connecticut with a degree in media studies. I love all things media. The Internet and social media are fascinating to me. We are watching it evolve everyday. I love film, television, print, music, and sports.

FP:  Thank you Ben for your time! We wish you continued success with both trucks!
