LES Food Tour

Given our love for food and NYC, the Lower East Side Food Tour was the perfect reason to jump on the subway to visit the LES. We were greeted by our tour guide, Dante Mercadante in front of  Yonah Schimmel Knish Bakery, the first of many stops on the tour. Check out our slide show to see what we ate and where!

During the tour, we learned that Dante is an actor and also a stand up comedian which explains why he was so personable and funny on the tour! Afterwards we reached out to Dante to learn more about him. Yes, Dante Mercadante is his REAL NAME!

FP: We very much enjoyed the LES food tour as you were a great tour guide! How did you get your start with Sidewalks of NY?

DM: I started pursuing acting professionally 6 years ago. I worked in sales until 2 years ago. I never really liked it and so I wanted to find something more conducive to going on auditions and such. I saw an ad on Craigslist placed by Josh, the owner of the company, and I applied and got the job!

FP: We know you must love food. Where are some of your favorite places to eat?

DM: In NYC, I love the burgers at Corner Bistro in the Village. Got to have the cupcakes at Molly’s in the Village.

Bronx: The Pine Tavern on Bronxdale ave, Italian food, family style, mmm mmm mmm.

Yonkers: Raceway Pizza on Yonkers Ave. Go in and say hello to the owner Louie. He’s a great guy with a one of a kind personality. The whole-wheat pizza is awesome.

FP: We’ll definitely check out your suggestions!

On the tour, we loved learning about your work as a comedian and actor. Where can we see you next?

DM: I do standup all over the city. No gigs scheduled right now but I’ll keep you posted 🙂

FP: Please do!

When you’re not working, what do you cook for yourself at home? Any favorite dishes?

DM: My girlfriend can BBQ a skirt steak like it’s nobody’s business. She does all the cooking. She also makes great chicken parm!

FP: Lucky you!

What are some of your guilty pleasures? We like to call them foodie pleasures, hence the name 🙂

DM: Probably a vanilla cupcake from Molly’s. Vanilla with brown butter icing, I get the mini. Watching my girlish figure.

FP: Cupcakes are true foodie pleasures for sure!

Thank you so much for your time. We wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors!

Don’t take our word for it, go to Sidewalks of NY’s website and book a tour!
