Beer, Spirits and Chocolate… oh my!

If you read our blog, you know we love attending food events! However, sometimes, it’a not just about food for us. Recently, we had the opportunity to indulge ourselves in not one, but two “beverage” inspired events.

Big Brew NY

Last week, we joined beer connoisseurs at the Big Brew NY Beer Festival in White Plains, NY. We sampled craft beer from breweries from all over the country.  Kristina, being from Michigan, was especially excited to see MI favorites such as Bell’s, New Holland Brewing, Founders, and Jolly Pumpkin. We also tasted brews from Allagash, Badass Cider, Breckenridge, Captain Lawrence, Hofbrau and more.

Of course, we also made sure to leave room to eat. We tasted delicious pork fried rice from Chef Anthony Goncalves of 42 The Restaurant as well as cheese curds from from The Cow and The Curd.

If craft beer and food wasn’t enough, we won a copy of John Holl’s The American Craft Beer Cookbook. We’ll be sure to make good use of the book soon!

We’ve become big fans of Francine Segan for her interesting talks on different food-related topics. Recently, we attended Francine’s tasting event titled “Decadent Duos” and learned how to pair a variety of chocolates with different types of spirits.

We learned that white chocolate tastes great with hibiscus tea and every type of chocolate tastes great with espresso! Our taste buds didn’t like the pairings of chocolate with whiskey or rum, but we were fans of chocolate and beer, and chocolate and wine.

On Feb. 27, we’ll be in attendance at another one of Francine’s “tasty” talks. We’re looking forward to visiting the Amedei store off Union Square to taste both savory and sweet chocolates. Make sure to purchase your tickets by visiting Amedei’s website. We hope to see you there!

What’s your favorite type of craft beer? How do you like your chocolate? Be sure to share your thoughts with us!
