C-CAP Recap 2014

Last week, we were in attendance for C-CAP’s Annual Benefit honoring Chef Michael White, Executive Chef and Co-Owner of the Altamarea Group, which includes the following NYC restaurants: Marea, Ai Fiori, Osteria Morini, Nicoletta (one of our fave pizza joints!), Costata and The Butterfly.

C-CAP is a great organization and we’re always excited to celebrate the great work they do for aspiring chefs. Of course, tasting the food doesn’t hurt! 😉 Throughout the night, we caught up with friends like Thiago Silva of The General, whose dessert was to die for, and chatted with Marcus Samuelsson and Dale Talde. Chef Samuelsson’s Chicken Donut was definitely a treat as well Chef Talde’s slippery noodles. A few of our other favorites included the quail egg-filled raviolo from SD26, the pastrami from American Cut, the salmon tataki with crispy kale from Nobu 57 and the ginger carrot creamsicle from Gotham Bar and Grill. Here’s a selection of what we sampled.

The benefit, emceed by Andrew Zimmern, raised one million dollars to support the C-CAP’s mission of providing scholarships, education and career opportunities in the culinary arts to disadvantaged youth. In addition to international culinary adventures, a few highlights from the auction were private dinners (cooked in the winners’ homes!) by Michael White and Marcus Samuelsson, which raised a total of $80,000.

If you haven’t gotten to know C-CAP, check out their website and some of our previous features and interviews on the organization. Your tastebuds will be tantalized and you’ll learn about a great cause that’s making an impact on the lives of youth and the future of the culinary world.
