Ready to Rumble

One of the great things about Twitter is learning about events that create experiences centered around great food and talented chefs. On Monday, June 9 we’ll be at Sons of Essex for Culinary Fight Night (CFN), an interactive cooking competition that pairs local chefs against each other in a Vegas-style boxing ring setting.

Guests are asked to RSVP on CFN’s website and then vote for a secret ingredient. Two teams of chefs will use the three most popular ingredients to prepare a three course meal for all guests in attendance as well as a six person celebrity judging panel. Each course will be scored in three categories: Taste, Creativity, and Presentation. In the end, the team leader with the most points will win a customized (CFN) Championship Belt, the title of Culinary Fight Night Champion and a cash prize, half of which will be donated to their charity of choice.

We caught up with Walt Henderson, founder of CFN, to learn more about him.

FP: We love the concept of CFN! How did the idea come about? What can guests look forward to?

WH: CFN started a little over 4 years ago based on two of my line cooks both wanting Saturday night off. Ultimately, the best appetizer won and CFN was born. Guests can expect to witness and tastes creations from up and coming talented chefs in a fun loving, interactive atmosphere.

FP: Nothing better than a little competition!

Name some chefs you’d love to see compete at CFN.

WH: I would love to see grandmothers and/or kids compete!

FP: Just like on Chopped, our favorite show on Food Network.

Where are some of your favorite places to eat around NYC?

WH: I love hidden gems! No more than 15 tables is perfect for me.

FP: Do you cook at home? If so, what are some of your favorite meals to prepare for yourself?

WH: I’m a southern guy to my core! BBQ, Mac n cheese and breakfast rules!!

FP: Name some of your guilty pleasures. We like to call them foodie pleasures, hence the name 🙂

WH: Brownies, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Hillstone‘s Smoked Salmon

FP: We’ve heard good things about Hillstone, so we’ll have to check it out soon!

Great learning a little bit about you. We look forward to seeing you at CFN on Monday!

We also learned that our friend Chef Kelvin, CFN’s 1st NYC Champion last year, will also be the host for CFN’s Summer Series. We’re excited to be in attendance for what is sure to be a “knockout” event. Check out CFN’s video on Vimeo to get yourself ready to rumble!
