When we have the craving for cajun food, we make our way to the Bayou Restaurant in the Fleetwood section of Mt. Vernon. When you walk inside the Bayou, you’re temporarily transported from Westchester to the land of crocodiles and hot sauce.
Our hungry appetites had us craving fried pickles and voodoo wings to start. The wings had a nice spicy kick and the pickles had the right amount of batter to enjoy the both the fried and pickle flavor.
When you eat at the Bayou, the po’ boys and catfish are a must. We shared a blackened chicken po’boy and catfish with collard greens. One thing not lacking at the Bayou is a selection of hot sauce. Throughout the restaurant, you’ll find bottles and bottles of various brands of sauces to choose from. We like to think they just give the Bayou some flavor. 🙂
Not only does the Bayou serve great food, it is also the location for great live music on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Here is a list of bands that have played at the Bayou over the years. Next time, you’re craving catfish or fried pickles and want to enjoy some live music, head over to the Bayou!
