Chattin’ with Chatty Chicken

Another great season of Great Food Truck Race recently ended and, as always, we’re hoping to learn more about all the contestants from the show. Last week, we learned about Madres Food Truck. This week, we caught up with Team Chatty Chicken, a family affair which consists of Greg Sr. (Father), Greg Jr. (Son) and Megan (wife of Greg Jr.), to learn about their experience on the show.

FP: We love the concept of the Chatty Chicken Food Truck. How did the concept evolve?

Greg Jr: We named it Chatty for Chattanooga and chatty as in our food “speaks” for itself (double meaning). The logo was done by a good friend who is a tattoo artist. We had no idea the truck was going to be orange, but was pleasantly surprised because that represents the great state of Tennessee.

FP: Great name for a food truck!

Tell us about your experience on the Great Food Truck Race. What will you remember most about the experience?

Greg Jr: We were a little skeptical of serving southern fried comfort food in California. It made it tough to go against some of the lighter cuisine some of the other trucks offered. Looking back we would have stuck with a grilled fresh chicken approach, and would have skipped shopping the 2nd day.

We will never forget all the good friends we made in the short time we were there! That experience alone was worth the whole trip!

FP: Besides Chatty Chicken, what is currently keeping you busy? Any projects in the works? What are some of your non food truck related interests?

Greg Sr: I recently started a new job as a culinary instructor at Virginia College in Chattanooga an it’s keeping me very busy. I love to Flyfish and tie my own flys.

Greg Jr: being a newlywed and my job as a massage therapist. My record collection, bonfires, and my dog Tango.

Megan: My new job at massage envy as an aesthetician. Decorating my house, entertaining and shopping, and of course my two dogs Zoey and Daisy. .

FP: What are some of your favorite meals to prepare when you are home? If you go out to eat, name some of your favorite places in Chattanooga, TN or other cities you’ve visited.

Greg Sr: Anything Tex Mex , pork tenderloin

Favorite places to eat: Lupis’ pizza, Taco Mamacita, and Aretha Frankensteins.

Greg Jr: Steaks and burgers on the grill.

Favorite places to eat: Andys BBQ, Aretha Frankenstein, Sci Fi diner at Hollywood studios.

Megan: Pasta dishes, German food, chicken pot pie.

Favorite places to eat: showcase, almost everyone of them! Andys BBQ

FP: What are some of your guilty pleasures? We like to call them foodie pleasures, hence the name 🙂

Greg Sr: Buttermilk pie, and Crispy Creme Donuts!!!!

Greg Jr: Cheesecake, hot tamale candy, my moms sweet potato casserole!

Megan: Rice crispy treats, short bread cookies dipped in hot tea, plain potato chips, gelato!

FP: A great list of guilty pleasures for sure!

Will the people in Chattanooga, TN (or another city) see a Chatty Chicken Food Truck cruising the streets in the near future?

Greg Sr: Yes, thats the plan! Trying to get financing then everyone will see a big orange truck with a chicken on the side cruising the streets in Chattanooga and nearby cities!

FP: We wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors!
