We enjoy the month of March for many reasons. Half of FP celebrates a birthday and the other half enjoys March Madness. Also, spring officially starts which brings warmer weather (hopefully). As foodies though, we’re definitely looking forward to March because of the C-CAP Annual Benefit. We’ve attended the last few years and always enjoy meeting chefs, learning about new restaurants in NYC and tasting delicious food!
At this year’s benefit, Michael Anthony, Executive Chef of Gramercy Tavern, Untitled, and Studio Café at the Whitney Museum of American Art, will receive the C-CAP Honors Award. The prestigious award is granted to individuals within the culinary industry for exceptional leadership and achievements. Chef Anthony has received numerous awards, including Food & Wine’s “Best New Chefs” in 2002 and Bon Appetit’s “Next Generation” in 2003. In 2008, Gramercy Tavern earned the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Restaurant.” In 2012, Michael won the James Beard Award for “Best Chef in New York City,” and in 2015, he won the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Chef.” In 2016, Michael’s V is for Vegetables won the James Beard Award for “Vegetable Focused and Vegetarian” cookbooks. Past recipients of the C-CAP Honors Award include: Daniel Humm, Richard Parsons & Alexander Smalls, Michael Lomonaco, Marcus Samuelsson and many more included in this list.
The event features fabulous culinary tastings prepared by Michael Anthony and nearly 40 of the city’s finest chefs, including Chef Chair and C-CAP Board Co-Chair Marcus Samuelsson. Here’s the entire list of participating chefs. Assisting the chefs will be more than 60 New York City C-CAP high school students and alumni, eager to put their mark on the culinary world.
Funds raised at the event will support the C-CAP’ s mission of providing job training, internships, competitions for culinary scholarships, college advising, college and career opportunities, lifetime career support, teacher training and curriculum enrichment in the culinary arts for disadvantaged youth.
The C-CAP Benefit is open to the public. Tickets for general admission are $600 (limited availability). Tickets for VIP admission are $800 and $1,000.
